The Pretender Liu Yu of Ch'i (Fou Ch'ang)
| In the 7th moon of the 4th year of Ch'ien-Yen (Sung, 1130AD) the people of Chin set up Liu Yu as an Emperor with the dyanstic name of Ch'i. He assended the throne in the 11th moon and adopted the reign title of Fou Ch'ang. In the early Chin dynasty coins of Liao and Sung were in use, and at the end of Tien Hui (1137) the Fou Ch'ang were still in circulation. Liu Yu was a Chin-Shih graduate from Fu-Ch'eng in Chihli, and later a prefect in Chi-nan in Shantung. He rebelled and took service with the Chins. In AD 1137 he was disposed. These coins are all rare and are best known for their beautiful calligraphic styles. |
